Expeditions 6 Takes to the Water: New Maui-Lana’i Ferry
On Saturday, October 15, 2016, Expeditions, the main company that operates ferry service between Maui and Lanai, introduced Expedition 6, the newest vessel in its fleet. McKeon Sheldon Mehling LLLC Partner, Keri Mehling, who has represented Expeditions since 2008, was invited to attend the blessing and launch of Expeditions 6 at Manele Harbor.
Before a crowd of Lanai residents and local media, Expeditions President, Bill Caldwell, welcomed the United States Coast Guard, special guests and all those in attendance before blessing the bow of the vessel with the customary and ceremonial bottle of champagne.
Mehling, along with other special guests, got to experience the ride from Lahaina Harbor to Manele Harbor and was impressed with the vessel’s new features. “It was a very smooth ride. The shaded upper deck is a great addition,” said Mehling.
Another guest commented that, “even into the bumps, the ride was mellow and the indoor seating with lumbar supporting seats and strong A/C was amazing.”
The Expeditions 6, while keeping the same general layout with upper and lower deck seating, features new state-of-the-art additions, like ergonomic seating and a comfortable upper level shaded area, which is sure to make whale watching more enjoyable on trips between the Auau Channel.
For over 27 years Expeditions has been providing local residents and visitors alike with transportation between the islands of Maui and Lanai. The one-hour ferry ride through the Auau Channel not only gives passengers spectacular panoramic views of Maui and Lanai, but gives a front row seat to Maui County’s marine life, especially during whale watching season.
