Shannon S. Sheldon, practising law in Hawaii since 2002, serves as general counsel to condominium, cooperative and homeowner associations, and represents clients in commercial litigation, business and construction litigation, and maintains a full-service intellectual property practice.
Condominium and Community Associations.
She works with associations to establish sound organizational and administrative practices while maintaining a sense of community. This work includes helping associations with compliance with their governing documents and applicable law, standardizing procedures, revising governing documents and reviewing insurance coverage and contracts. She also prepares documents for and attends board and annual meetings.
Ms. Sheldon’s association collection practice includes demand letters, recordation of liens, negotiation of payment plans, breach of contract actions for money damages, foreclosure actions and non-judicial foreclosures.
Her condominium and community association practice began while working at Rountree, Losee & Baldwin in Wilmington, North Carolina for large master associations, such as Pinehurst Golf Resort, and continued while working at Paul Johnson Park & Niles on Maui for several years.
As a licensed patent attorney, Ms. Sheldon’s practice is also directed to intellectual property. She has over a decade of experience in the field, including working in California intellectual property boutiques, Lyon & Lyon and Sheldon Mak & Anderson, at which she conducted prior art searches, prepared and prosecuted mechanical and biotechnology patents, litigated complex intellectual property cases, conducted right-to-use studies, infringement analyses, opinion letters, and performed due diligence for patents and trademarks.
In addition to prosecuting and litigating patents, trademarks, and copyrights, Ms. Sheldon’s practice includes preparing licenses, settlement agreements, confidentiality agreements, and employment and service agreements.
Ms. Sheldon’s experience further includes extensive litigation of real property, construction defect, and insurance cases on Maui currently, and while employed at Alston Hunt Floyd & Ing in Honolulu.
