Shannon acts as general counsel to over 200 condominium and homeowner associations across the State of Hawaii.
Shannon works with associations to establish sound organizational and administrative practices while maintaining a sense of community. This work includes helping associations maintain compliance with their governing documents and applicable law, standardizing procedures, revising governing documents and reviewing insurance coverage and contracts. Shannon supports boards of directors by attending board and annual meetings and preparing documents in preparation for those meetings. Shannon also assists associations in their collection of assessments, recording liens, court actions, and foreclosures.
In addition to her extensive association practice, Shannon is a licensed patent attorney and maintains an active intellectual property practice with over a decade of experience in conducting prior art searches, prosecuting infringement, and performing due diligence for patents, trademarks and copyrights.
Shannon is active in the Hawaii community and serves as a lecturer of Business Law and International Business Law at the University of Hawaii, Maui Campus and sits on the Board of Directors of the Applied Business and Information Technology program.
Shannon is President of the Hawaii State Bar in 2022. She will be the third neighbor island President and first woman neighbor island President in 70 years. She also was the Director for Maui, President of the Maui County Bar Association, and serves on the HSBA Executive Committee, Hawaii Justice Foundation, Committee on Judicial Administration, Nominating Committee, Leadership Institute Committee, and Awards Committee.
