William M. McKeon, attorney on Maui since 1984, represents clients in complex commercial litigation, including real estate, business, construction and personal injury disputes in all the courts in Hawai’i. Mr. McKeon also advises and represents clients in real estate and business transactions. Mr. McKeon was previously with Paul Johnson Park & Niles, Attorneys At Law, A Law Corporation, for over 26 years, including 19 years as a shareholder and 8 years as president, before becoming a founding member of McKeon Sheldon Mehling.
Real Estate Litigation. Mr. McKeon won a $4.1 million award following a four week long arbitration for the buyers of an architecturally significant ocean front compound with undisclosed construction defects, one of the two largest awards of its kind in the history of Hawai’i. Mr. McKeon has also represented sellers, buyers and real estate agents in misrepresentation, disclosure, fraud, easement, boundary, ownership, title, mortgage, nuisance and trespass disputes.
Complex Business Litigation. Mr. McKeon won a $5.3 million arbitration award for the buyer of a $24 million office and retail high rise building in downtown Honolulu for failure to convey the property. He achieved a multi-million dollar settlement for one of Hawaii’s largest hospitals arising from a failed computer installation and successfully opposed class certification of claims against national retailers and wholesalers.
Construction. He litigated to settlement several multi-million dollar construction defect claims for associations and owners. Mr. McKeon has represented owners, developers, design professionals, contractors, subcontractors and suppliers in numerous dispute proceedings, including mechanic’s lien actions. He has handled disputes involving hotels, commercial buildings, multi-family units and luxury residences and defect claims relating to roofs, building envelopes, siding, waterproofing, flashing, framing, windows, doors, millwork, masonry work, pools, tile, drainage, flooding, and subsidence.
Insurance Defense. Insurers that have retained Mr. McKeon include, among others, Lloyd’s of London, Travelers, Catlin, Founders, St. Paul, Media Access, AXIS, and the Automobile Club of Southern California. Mr. McKeon has successfully defended local companies and visitors involved in death, paralysis and other accidents, and claims of professional malpractice against real estate agents. He obtained a jury defense verdict for Liberty House department store following a jury trial. He regularly represents a Maui electrical utility provider.
Real Estate and Business Transactions. Mr. McKeon has represented owners, developers, sellers and buyers of commercial and residential properties, and handled the purchase and sale of local businesses acquired by national chains and companies.
Arbitration/Mediation. Mr. McKeon has represented clients in numerous mediations, many arbitrations and has been appointed arbitrator through the Hawaii Supreme Court’s Court Annexed Arbitration program in more than 50 cases.
